Acalculous adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder.

چکیده
The course of acalculous adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder in six patients is described. It is suggested that, even in the absence of gallstones, cholecystectomy should be advised when this condition is demonstrated radiographically in symptomatic subjects. The cause of the pain is unknown but it is probably related to excessive neuromuscular activity of the hyperplastic gallbladder wall. One of the patients was found also to have an adenomatous polyp containing areas of adenocarcinoma. Although this polyp was not situated within an area of adenomyomatosis, it is possible that, as in most other patients with carcinoma of the gallbladder, previous disease may have predisposed to malignant change.

Perforated gangrenous cholecystitis with concurrent Clostridium perfringens bacteraemia masquerading as adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder: A case report
Introduction: Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) is an unusual cause of bacteraemia in the healthy, immunocompetent host. Similarly, acalculous cholecystitis is rare in the absence of critical illness or preceding trauma. We present, to the best of our knowledge, the first documented case of concurrent C. perfringens bacteraemia and acalculous cholecystitis in a previously well human. Cas...

Adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder is a benign and degenerative condition of the gallbladder, characterized by proliferation of the mucosa of the gallbladder wall, forming invaginations and diverticula, penetrating a thickened muscular layer: the so-called Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses (RAS). Most of the patients with adenomyomatosis remain asymptomatic. Hence adenomyomatosis is usually an inciden...
متن کاملRare gallbladder adenomyomatosis presenting as atypical cholecystitis: case report
BACKGROUND Gallbladder adenomyomatosis is a benign condition characterized by hyperplastic change in the gallbladder wall and overgrowth of the mucosa because of an unknown cause. Patients with gallbladder adenomyomatosis usually present with abdominal pain. However, we herein describe a case of a patient with gallbladder adenomyomatosis who did not present with abdominal pain, but with only fe...
متن کاملNeonatal adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder: An incidental finding at 12 hours of life
Adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder, although relatively common in adults, is a rare entity in the pediatric age group. Controversy still exists as to whether or not to perform followup ultrasound, as there is a questionable increased risk of gallbladder carcinoma in adults. We present a case of neonatal adenomyomatosis that was diagnosed at 12 hours of life in a term newborn.

Gallbladder adenomyomatosis (GA) is a benign alteration of the gallbladder wall that can be found in up to 9% of patients. GA is characterized by a gallbladder wall thickening containing small bile-filled cystic spaces (i.e., the Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses, RAS). The bile contained in RAS may undergo a progressive concentration process leading to crystal precipitation and calcification developm...
